What is HDTV Television?
by admin ~ June 26th, 2008. Filed under: HDTV.HDTV stands for high definition television. HDTV also refers to a digital television broadcasting system with greater resolution than traditional television broadcasts, at higher resolution.
High definition refers to 720 vertical lines of resolution or more. Because the signal is digital it reproduces a picture and audio that is superior to it’s predecessor. HDTV (digital television), requires less bandwidth if sufficient video compression is used during the transfer of data. HDTV technology was first introduced in the United States in the early 1990s by a small group of television companies.
The HDTV Signal
HDTVs require a high definition signal for the quality of the stream to reproduce on the screen. HD signals can be transferred in several ways:
Over the air with an antenna to receive it. Most cities in the U.S. with major network affiliates broadcast over the air in HD format. An HD tuner is required to receive the signal. Most new HD televisions have an HD tuner built in. For HDTV televisions without a built-in HD tuner, an HD tuner (converter) can be rented, or supplied without charge, from a cable or satellite company. If not, they can be purchased as a separate component.
Cable television companies offer HDTV broadcasts as part of their digital broadcasting. Many cable companies offer on-demand movies and programming.
Satellite-based broadcasters offer HDTV as an upgrade. New satellite receiver boxes and satellite dishes may be required for reception.
Definition OF HDTV Broadcast Systems
HDTV broadcast systems are define by three qualities: The number of lines in a vertical display resolution; the scanning system, whether it is progressive scanning or interlaced scanning; third, the number of frames per second or fields that can be reproduced per second.
How Big Of A Screen?
If money is no object, then you will want to consider wall mounts, a HDTV stand, or free standing on the floor.
Some people like to mount HDTV televisions on their walls to save space.
Will I Notice A Difference?
The picture quality difference between their old analog TV and the new HDTV television is dramatic. You may think you’re actually at the event with a good system. Newscasters and actors have even complained that the pimples and wrinkles that didn’t show on analog TV are clearly visible on HDTV television. Oh,well.
