Making a HDTV Comparison to Find the Best One
If you are still considering buying HDTV you may have been overwhelmed by the models and other variables that are available in this burgeoning new market. Every store you visit will be offering the latest, greates model, claiming to be cutting edge and state of the art technology.
As with all technology, the next generation HDTV will be superior to it’s predecessors. That can also mean that you can find a HDTV that fits your budget today and still makes your entertainment experience an event. HDTV comparison is easy just by doing a little research and testing out models in your local store.
LCD or Plasma?
There are two types of HDTV that are the market standards today, LCD and plasma HDTV. LCD and Plasma HDTV models will seem similar, but look for these distinctions when you compare. When you make a HDTV comparison you will notice subtle differences that will help you find the better TV.
If want to a compare HDTV performance try a darkened room and you’ll find that they both do exceptionally well. However you’ll probably note slight differences in a brightly lit room. LCD HDTV usually projects better in bright rooms. You may find that the detail in colors on your plasma HDTV that are not as bright as at night.
If you’re comparing HDTV color and image quality you will also find subtle differences in the LCD models. LCD screens usually have a better color quality but sometimes fade over time as the LCD back lights become dim with age.
You will have to replace the back light to regain the picture quality that had when you bought the new unit. Many quality manufacturers have developed back lights that have longer life span, so parts, warranty and reputation can be a factor in your purchase.
Viewing angles tend to favor the plasma HDTV compared to the LCD HDTV. At a sharp angle the details may be lost on an LCD HDTV. The images may look gray or faded and the color may not be what it is from a front view.
Older models of LCD’s also tended to blur when watching fast-motion action. Newer models have substantially overcome this problem. If you have decided on an LCD model, choose one that tests well in the store, and you won’t be disappointed after you make your purchase.
